New School Year, New Beginnings: How OIS Benin Prepares Students for a Successful Academic Year

Every great school year starts long before the first bell rings. At Oak International School Benin (OIS Benin), the weeks leading up to our resumption are just as important as the year itself, a time when classrooms are prepared, teachers are trained, and the whole school community gets ready to welcome students back with energy and purpose.

As we open the doors on the 2026–2027 academic year, here’s a look at what goes into building a successful start, and what makes this year at OIS Benin one of our most exciting yet.

Behind the Scenes: Staff Orientation and Training

In the final weeks before students return, our teaching and administrative staff took part in an intensive orientation and training programme. This isn’t simply an administrative formality, it’s where our educators align on curriculum goals, refresh their teaching methodologies, and prepare classrooms that inspire curiosity from day one.

Orientation week also welcomed new members of the OIS Benin family: teachers and staff who bring fresh energy, new perspectives, and specialised expertise to our community. Combined with our experienced returning staff, this year’s team is one of the strongest we’ve assembled, united by a shared commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development.

Academic Excellence at the Core

OIS Benin’s reputation as the leading bilingual and internationally minded schools in Benin is built on a simple foundation: a rigorous, blended curriculum that prepares students for success wherever their futures take them.

Our bilingual programme ensures students build genuine fluency and confidence in both French and English, opening doors to universities and opportunities across the region and beyond. For students pursuing more advanced pathways, our AP programmes offer internationally recognised qualifications that are respected by top universities worldwide.

But academics at OIS Benin go beyond exams and grades. Our approach blends strong fundamentals with holistic education, nurturing critical thinking, creativity, leadership, and character alongside academic achievement. It’s an approach reflected in our students’ consistently strong CEP, BEPC, and international examination results.

What’s New This Year?

This academic year, OIS Benin continues to invest in what matters most to our families. Pupils in Grades 4 to 6 will now use tablets as a compulsory part of their learning, giving them early confidence with digital tools. Our enhanced library system will strengthen reading and vocabulary skills across all levels, and our upgraded infirmary will offer even better care and support for every child.

We have also improved our parent communication systems, expanded our calendar of community and leadership events, and renewed our focus on making every family’s experience with OIS Benin, from first enquiry to graduation day, as warm and well-supported as possible.

Building on the momentum of recent years, we are excited to introduce new enrichment opportunities and leadership programmes designed to help every student grow beyond the classroom.

Welcoming Our Students Back

This week our classrooms will once again fill with the energy that only a new school year can bring. For our returning students, it’s a chance to reconnect with friends, take on new challenges, and build on the progress they made last year. For the students joining us for the first time, it’s the beginning of a journey we’re honoured to be part of.

Our teachers have spent recent weeks preparing not just lesson plans, but learning environments designed to help every student, from our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, feel welcomed, challenged, and supported.

A Year of Growth, Together

Whether it’s a first grader taking their first steps into formal education or a Grade 12 student preparing for university applications, OIS Benin is committed to walking alongside every family throughout this academic year.

We can’t wait to see what our students, teachers, and families will accomplish together in 2026–2027.
